Gerard Mansour, Commissioner for Senior Victorians

A decade ago, I was appointed into the role of the state’s first Commissioner for Senior Victorians. It has proved an incredibly rewarding, challenging and exciting role to take on. After four terms, I’ve decided now is the right time to step away and focus on other personal and professional goals.

It has truly been a great honour to serve and work with so many Victorians, peak bodies and organisations from all over the state. We've worked together to better understand and advocate for the needs, experiences and perspectives of older Victorians.

My experience in this role has taught me so much about myself and our community. As well as the importance of older people and the contributions they make to society. It is vital that the experiences and perspectives of older people are heard.
I also want to extend my sincere thanks to the many staff across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing who have greatly supported my role over the years.

Listening to the experiences of thousands of senior Victorians, your insights have shaped how I plan to spend my senior years. It's highlighted the importance of community participation and connection, of staying physically and mentally fit, as well as having a lifelong commitment to learning and new experiences.

I would like to thank every person and organisation who has followed, supported and contributed to my work in this role. I have learned so much from your experience, insights and passion to make Victoria a better place to age well.

Take care and all the best.
