Questions about the Victorian Seniors Card program

  • What is the Seniors Card program?

    The Seniors Card program acknowledges and celebrates the contribution seniors have made and continue to make to our communities and the State of Victoria. The purpose of the program is to encourage older people to keep active and engaged in the community, by providing incentives and making it more affordable to get out and about.

  • What is the Seniors Business Discount Card?

    The Seniors Business Discount Card is available to Australian residents aged 60 years and over who permanently reside in Victoria, and work 35 hours or more per week.

    Seniors Business Discount Card holders can access discounts from over 4,000 participating businesses across Victoria. Most businesses offer a minimum of 10% discount on goods or services. The Seniors Business Discount Card does not provide public transport concessions.

  • How do I apply for a card and how long will my application take to be processed?

    To apply for either a Seniors Card or a Seniors Business Discount Card, simply visit the apply for a card page.Make sure you have your green Medicare Card handy to complete your application.

    Applicants for a Victorian Seniors Card only (i.e. not Seniors Business Discount Card) can also pick up an application form from your local library . 

    All paper application forms (not online form) require a statutory declaration which must be witnessed.

    Standard processing time for applications is three to four weeks from when we receive your application.

  • What are the eligibility criteria and benefits for the Seniors Card and Seniors Business Discount Card?

    With both the Seniors Card and Seniors Business Discount Card, card holders can obtain business discounts. Only Seniors Card holders receive public transport concessions and Seniors fares.

  • Are Victorian Seniors Cards and Seniors Business Discount Cards recognised interstate and in New Zealand?

    When you travel interstate, please take your Seniors Card with you. All states and territories in Australia accept interstate Seniors Cards for concession travel. Most interstate businesses and participating businesses in New Zealand also accept the Victorian Seniors Card. Please contact Seniors Card program in the States and Territories that you intend to visit for benefits offered to Victorian Seniors Card holders.  

    Interstate and New Zealand participating businesses are encouraged to extend their offers to Seniors Business Discount Card holders, however it is up to each individual business to decide what discounts they make available to Seniors Business Discount Card holders.   • I already have a Victorian Seniors Card - do I need to apply for a Seniors Business Discount Card?

    No.

    If you are an existing Seniors Card holder you do not need to apply for the Seniors Business Discount Card. You already enjoy access to the full range of Seniors Card benefits.

  • If I am a Business Discount Card holder and I am now eligible for a Seniors Card. How can I get my Seniors Card?
    You can apply for your Seniors Card simply by visiting the apply for a card page. Make sure you have your green Medicare Card handy to complete your application.
  • If I am a Seniors Card and I am now working fulltime, how can I change my card to a Seniors Business Discount Card?
    You can apply for your Seniors Business Discount Card simply by visiting the apply for a card page. Make sure you have your green Medicare Card handy to complete your application. 
  • My card is lost/damaged/stolen. How do I get a replacement?

    If you have a lost, stolen or damaged Seniors Card or Seniors Business Discount Card, please complete the Replace a Card form to order your replacement card.

    A replacement card will be sent out within approximately three to four weeks. 

  • I need to update my personal details. How can I do this?

    If you have moved or changed your address, or updated your phone number complete the Update your contact details form.

  • How do I apply for a Seniors myki?

    Victorian Seniors Card holders receive a free Seniors myki card upon joining the program.

    If you are already a Seniors Card holder, or need a replacement Seniors myki, please contact Public Transport Victoria (PTV).

    PTV can be contacted calling 1800 800 007 or visit https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/fares/concession/seniors for more information.

    Seniors Business Discount Card holders are not eligible to receive a free Seniors myki card upon joining the program.

  • Can Seniors Business Discount Card holders use a Seniors myki?

    No. A Seniors myki can only be used with a Victorian Seniors Card.

    If you use a Seniors myki to travel on public transport without a valid Seniors Card you may be liable for a fine of $277.

  • Why haven't I received my off-peak travel vouchers?

    The free off-peak travel vouchers are sent to Victorian Seniors Card holders every September with the annual Seniors Card mail out. Households with two card holders receive their vouchers together in the same envelope.

    Seniors Business Discount Card holders are not eligible to receive free off-peak travel vouchers.

    If you believe you are eligible and have not received your vouchers please call the program on 1300 797 210 to confirm we have your correct address details.

  • How do I redeem my free off-peak travel vouchers?

    Victorian Seniors Card holders can obtain full and detailed information about their free travel vouchers at Public Transport Victoria.

    If you redeem your vouchers at a premium metropolitan station for a Day Pass, your choices are to:

    • Travel on the same day
    • Nominate a future travel date and keep the Day Pass until you travel.

    If you are redeeming for a Day Pass for a future trip, please ensure you know your travel plans in advance. The day, month and year will need to be punched by the station attendant. There are no changes to processes for redeeming your vouchers for V/Line tickets for travel in Victoria.

    You can also have someone else redeem your vouchers on your behalf, as long as the voucher is signed and accompanied by the signed entitlement card (e.g. Seniors Card) when presented at a staff V/line or metro station.

    Seniors Business Discount Card holders are not eligible to receive free travel vouchers.

  • Where can I redeem my vouchers for V/Line trips for nominated day(s)?

    Victorian Seniors Card holders who have received free travel vouchers can redeem them at selected metropolitan premium stations and staffed V/Line stations or from V/Line ticket agents.

    You can upgrade to first class on V/Line by paying the required upgrade fee. For more information on Seniors Free Off-Peak Travel Vouchers visit the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) website.

    Seniors Business Discount Card holders are not eligible for free travel vouchers.

  • Where can I redeem my vouchers for unlimited Zone 1 & 2 travel on a nominated day?

    Victorian Seniors Card holders who have received free travel vouchers can redeem them at a metropolitan premium station.

    Seniors Business Discount Card holders are not eligible for free travel vouchers.

  • How can I get a Pensioner Concession Card?

    To apply for the Commonwealth Pensioner Concession Card, telephone the Centrelink Older Australians Line on 13 23 00 or visit your local Centrelink Customer Service Centre. Further information is available from the Centrelink website.

  • Does my card give me discounted prescriptions?

    No. For enquiries regarding the Commonwealth "Seniors Health Card" please contact Centrelink on 13 23 00 or visit your local Centrelink Customer Service Centre. Further information is available from Department of Human Services.

    The Victorian Seniors Card program is not intended as an income supplement or support scheme and does not provide assistance with prescriptions, land and water rates, utility bills, or vehicle registration.

  • Is there a Seniors Card for people under 60?

    To be eligible for a Seniors Card or a Seniors Business Discount Card you must be 60 years of age.

    The Victorian Seniors Card Program is not affiliated with any other private member organisation.

  • I have received a special offer in the mail. Is this from Seniors Card?

    All Seniors Card special offers are sent out with the Seniors Card logo displayed on the envelope, and come with a flyer inside, entitled: "Important privacy information". The Seniors Card program complies with Victoria’s Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and does not provide your personal information to businesses.
