The Commissioner for Senior Victorians is committed to working towards an age-friendly and inclusive Victoria for all seniors. The Commissioner provides independent advice to the Minister and government departments. The Commissioner does not provide programs for older people.

The Commissioner’s role is not individual advocacy or for resolving complaints about government services for seniors. Other agencies deal with complaints. The following contacts are recommended:
 

Age Discrimination Commissioner (Commonwealth)

The Age Discrimination Commissioner is responsible for raising awareness of age discrimination, educating the community about the impact of age discrimination and monitoring and advocating for the elimination of age discrimination across all areas of public life.

Health Complaints Commissioner

You have a right to access safe, quality healthcare and to be treated with respect. Raising your concerns when this doesn't happen protects your rights and can improve the health system for all Victorians.

The Health Complaints Commissioner is an independent and impartial statutory body that opened on 1 February, 2017 under the Health Complaints Act 2016. They support safe and ethical healthcare in Victoria by:

•Resolving complaints about health services and the handling of health information in Victoria.
•Investigating providers who pose a serious risk to the health, safety or welfare of the public.
•Monitoring and reviewing trends in complaints data.
•Providing an accessible service and free alternative to legal proceedings.
•Educating consumers and providers about their rights and responsibilities.

Privacy Victoria regulates how Victorian government agencies and local councils handle personal information.

Taxi Services Commission

The Taxi Services Commission, which took over from the Victorian Taxi Directorate as regulator of Victoria's taxi industry on 1 July 2013, is responsible for the progressive roll out of the reforms outlined in the Victorian Government Response to the Taxi Industry Inquiry.

Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission helps people resolve complaints of discrimination (including discrimination based on age), sexual harassment, victimisationand racial or religious vilification through a free, fair and timely dispute resolution service with the aim of achieving a mutual agreement.

The Commission also educates people about the rights and responsibilities contained in the Charter of Human Rights but it does not deal with complaints about the Charter.
