Event details

This is dance stripped back to its rawest, most honest form. FreeSteps - Swinging Years is a captivating work created by dancers aged 60 and over, guided by acclaimed Taiwanese choreographer Wei-Chia Su.

Over the course of two weeks, local participants will join Su in exploring the language of the body; muscles, bones, and postures. The final performance will be a mass celebration of the beauty and wear accumulated through decades of life.

Free Steps - Swinging Years invites you to witness the extraordinary power of lived experience, conveyed through the unique personal histories etched in each dancer’s movements. It’s a testament to resilience, loss, joy, and bodies moving with intention and grace through time. This work is part of a decade-long choreographic journey by Wei-Chia Su, who has collaborated with hundreds of seasoned dancers around the world.

Now coming to Melbourne as part of Fringe Focus Taiwan, Swinging Years is an intimate, cross-cultural dialogue that connects communities through movement, reflecting the rhythms and emotions of time that unite us all.

Audiences can understand and engage with this event without a comprehensive understanding of the English language. The event takes place in a venue that's accessible for wheelchair users and audience with mobility impairments.
