Event details

Jane Austen must be one of the most popular and adored authors of the 19th Century, with her novels continuing to be read and reread and her characters becoming part of our literary memories.

Thankfully she was also a prolific letter writer, particularly to her elder sister Cassandra, with whom she shared a love of fashion. “I cannot determine what to do about my new gown….am so tired and ashamed of my present stock, that I even blush at the sight of the wardrobe which contains them” Jane in 1798.

Using the letters of Jane Austen, some historical background and opinions of the day, let’s step through the doors of a Georgian wardrobe, to a world of white muslin, satin and silk and spend an hour or so getting dressed with Jane - from the underwear to the outerwear and beyond!
