On 1 November 2022 the Free Travel Voucher program changed to provide greater flexibility in how you book your journey.

To access free travel vouchers annually you must be Victorian residents and hold a:

  • Victorian Seniors Card,
  • Victorian Carer Card (‘We Care’ card),
  • Pensioners Concession Card issued by Centrelink, or
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs (all codes, including Disability Support Pension or Carer Payment recipients).

The Department of Transport introduced more booking options to make it easier to redeem your free travel. Visiting a station during opening hours to redeem your voucher for a ticket is no longer the only option.

Eligible card holders can register for free using the Free Travel Voucher Registration FormExternal Link on the PTV website.

Registration is free. It only takes a few minutes to complete the registration form, and you only need to register once.

PTV has a twice yearly intake of registrations:

  • Register between 1 March and 31 August and your voucher allocation will be available to access from 1 November.
  • Register between 1 September and 28 February and your voucher allocation will be available to access from 1 May.

What changed?

The Free Travel Voucher program went paperless in 2022.

There are no changes to the eligibility criteria or the need to register. The registration process remains the same. Terms and conditions relating to the use of the vouchers remains unchanged.

Your allocated vouchers will be valid from 1 November to 30 October each year.

How can I redeem my travel vouchers?

Vouchers are now held electronically.

You can choose to redeem vouchers at a staffed station or V/Line agent, or over the phone via the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) call centre on 1800 800 007.

You can choose to:

  • collect your ticket from a station or agent before travel
  • call 10 business days in advance and have your ticket posted to you
  • redeem your vouchers online.

What do I have to do?

If you have registered, your vouchers automatically top up each year. You don’t need to register again unless your Seniors Card or Carer Card details change.
