Moira Waye is an extraordinary 83-year-old from Pyalong, a close-knit town of 700 people. Recipient of the Premier’s Victorian Senior of the Year Award in 2022, Moira's impact is immeasurable.
As President of the Pyalong Neighbourhood House Committee, Moira spearheaded a vital initiative during the drought in northern Victoria and southern New South Wales. In solidarity with other farming communities, she rallied her town and surrounding communities and organisations to provide food packages to struggling farmers, offering them much-needed support.
But Moira's dedication doesn't stop there. Together with her committee, she established a local op shop in Pyalong’s Neighbourhood House. This initiative provides affordable clothing and goods to residents, while simultaneously creating part-time employment opportunities for three local women – it has become the beating heart of this little community.
