Bowel cancer is our second biggest cancer killer, taking around 100 Australian lives each week. New Victorian data also shows nearly 500 bowel cancers went undiagnosed in the first three quarters of 2020.
A new campaign by the Cancer Council is encouraging eligible Victorians aged 50 – 74 to take part in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.
About the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program
Over 90 per cent of bowel cancers can be treated successfully if found early.
The National Bowel Cancer Screening delivers free at-home bowel cancer screening kits in the mail to people aged 50-74 every two years.
The kits are easy to do, hygienic and can be done in the comfort of your own home. The test spots the early signs of bowel cancer, when successful treatment is more likely.
Your first kit will usually arrive within the first six months of your 50th birthday and then every two years after that. If you don't receive a kit, it's best to call the National Cancer Screening Register on 1800 627 701 to find out when your test will arrive.
