Event overview
Event details
The 'We Built this City' exhibition celebrates the diversity of Greater Dandenong’s heritage places and the lesser-known histories behind sites.
Our municipality is not widely acknowledged for its historic architecture, however there are a wide range of architectural periods present, from Victorian-era through to the late 20th-century and contemporary.
Likewise, with our history, there are many fascinating stories behind the sites and the people connected with them - including how different waves of migration, particularly post-war migrants, have shaped the places we enjoy today.
Come and see stories for each place come to life through historic objects, videos, photographs and oral histories from council and local historical society collections.
Participants are encouraged to share their recollections of sites through our Community Heritage Memory Book.
The exhibition is open during the Seniors Festival on 16 – 31 October, each Wednesday and Thursday between 10-2 pm.
Free entry.
City of Greater Dandenong gratefully acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government, Public Record Office Victoria, Dandenong and District Historical Society and Springvale and District Historical Society for making this project possible.
