Third dose interval reduced to three months

If you had your second COVID-19 vaccine dose three or more months ago, you are due for your third dose now.

You can get the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for your third dose regardless of the vaccine you received for your first two doses. People who are immunocompromised and have received their third primary dose more than three months ago can also receive a fourth booster dose. You can view the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) advice hereExternal Link .

Novavax rollout to commence from 21 February

Australians aged 18 and over will now have access to a fourth COVID-19 vaccine, Nuvaxovid (Novavax), in coming weeks following ATAGI approval.

The recommendations from ATAGI follow Australia’s medicines regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), provisionally approving the Novavax vaccine in Australia.

ATAGI has recommended the Novavax vaccine be given in two doses, at least three weeks apart. Australia has purchased 51 million doses of the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.

Subject to successful TGA batch testing, the Novavax vaccine will be available to be administered from the week of 21 February 2022.
