Victorian Seniors Festival Reimagined 2020: Gram O Phonie Brothers
Bec Reid
It’s the Gram O Phonie Brothers, playing the accordion and the double base and featuring … cake. All with spontaneity and a little retro twist. The Victorian Seniors Festival warmly welcomes The Gram O Phonie Brothers!
Anthony, The Gram O Phonie Brothers
Hello! We’re the Gram O Phonie Brothers and we love the Victorian Seniors Festival Reimagined 2020.
[Singing "Never On A Sunday"]
You could kiss me on a Monday, a Monday, a Monday is very, very good
And you could kiss me on a Tuesday, a Tuesday, a Tuesday. In fact, I wish you would
Or if you make it on a Wednesday, a Thursday, a Friday, well Saturday is best
But never ever on the Sunday, a Sunday, a Sunday. I need a little rest
Most any day, you can be my guest
Any day you say but my day of rest
Just name the day that you like the best
Only stay away from my day of rest
Bec Reid
The Gram O Phonie brothers are known for a large repertoire. Can you tell us about the musical style?
Edvardo, The Gram O Phonie Brothers
The waltz, the tarantella, the quick step, the side-step, the backwards step – don’t forget that! Heavy metal is hard to play on an accordion but we do that too, don’t we, Anton? We certainly do, Edvardo. [Singing] Smoke on the water.
Bec Reid
Smoke on the water, yeah. Edvardo and Antonio, this is where I get all ‘investigative journalist’. Victoria needs to know – why did you choose those yellow suits?
Anthony, The Gram O Phonie Brothers
We tried various configurations and you remember, Edvardo, how we tried playing with no clothes at all?
Edvardo, The Gram O Phonie Brothers
Yeah, but no, don’t talk about that!
Anthony, The Gram O Phonie Brothers
In our birthday suits and, of course, that’s why we can’t work in Queensland anymore.
[Singing ‘Dream’]
When I want you in my arms. When I want you and all your charms
Whenever I want you, all I have to do, is dream, dream dream dream
When I feel blue in the night and I need you to hold me tight
Whenever I want you, all I have to do, is dream
I can make you mine, taste your lips of wine any time, night or day
Only trouble is, gee whiz, I'm dreaming my life away
I need you so that I could die, I love you so, and that is why
Whenever I want you, all I have to do, is dream, dream dream dream, dream
Edvardo, The Gram O Phonie Brothers
The Gram O Phonie Brothers – humorous like the Marx Brothers, harmonies like the Everly Brothers and sophisticated like the Leyland Brothers.
Bec Reid
