Radio 88 FM - The Swings Years

The Swing Years explores the early roots of Swing music. Beginning with the first performance by Benny Goodman and his band of the “Sugar Foot Stomp” at the Paloma Ballroom in Los Angeles in 1935 to legends like Duke Ellington and the Dorsey Brothers.

The second instalment takes you back to the days of the big bands when Swing musicians were our pop stars and celebrities. The show includes music from Glenn Miller, Jimmie Lunceford, Bob Crosby, Artie Shaw and Bunny Berigan.

Aura of the Whitethorn - Love Songs of the Irish

One of Australia's most adventurous sopranos, Deborah Kayser's music practices span the centuries from Ancient Chant, the Baroque, to Contemporary explorations in written and improvised music. Nick Tsiavos is a bassist and composer whose music operates at the intersections of the Modern and the Ancient, explored through the prism of Improvisation. 

The voice and the contrabass combine to create a rich aesthetic experience while embarking on an exploration of the deep emotions that run through this collection of Irish love songs from the last two hundred years.

Adam Simmons is one of Australia’s most highly regarded and eclectic musicians, performing with artists as varied as Nigel Kennedy, The Pearly Shells, Australian Art Orchestra and Spiderbait.

In this presentation, Adam discusses his new CD, “Zatoczka – Tribute to Komeda”, inspired by the music and legacy of legendary film and jazz composer, Krzysztof Komeda, as well as his own personal experiences of Polish culture including pierogi, paczki and maybe a little vodka.

Originally from the tropics of North Queensland, Jessie Lloyd is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musician who performs a broad collection of Australian Indigenous songs. A musician, producer and creative entrepreneur, Jessie Lloyd is a cultural practitioner of Indigenous music and is dedicated to the continuation of song traditions. Her mission is to produce, perform and progress Australian Indigenous music through innovative concepts, collaborative projects and cultural practice.
