Spectrum originally formed back in 1969 and became famous with the iconic number one single I’ll Be Gone.

The band broke up in 1973 but two of the original members, Mike and Bill, continued playing together in other bands before reforming as Spectrum Plays The Blues, (now just Spectrum) in 1998, when they got in touch with Peter 'Robbo' Robinson.

From age 11, Peter ‘Robbo’ Robertson used to play drums along to records of his favourite bands. So, it was a real buzz 28 years later when two of his favourite musicians, Mike Rudd and Bill Putt, got in touch to ask if he’d like to jam with them.

‘I played with my eyes shut thinking, “This is the music that I grew up with, and here they are in my room!” It was quite overwhelming.’

‘We played as a trio for maybe five years until Daryl Roberts, the keyboard player, joined the band and gave it that distinctive Spectrum sound,’ Robbo says.

In 2013, after Bill passed away, Broc O'Connor became their bass player. ‘Broc and I have played together in many bands over the years and he's a fabulous guitarist, but he's also a mighty fine bass player and he fit right into the band.’

‘Early last year, Brenden Mason joined us as well —he's a founding member of Madder Lake, a great 70s band. Brenden's a fabulous guitarist too, and he’s really added a lot of energy and musicianship.’

Spectrum played for the Victorian Seniors Festival for the first time last year.

‘I think the older generation really love it when they can come and hear a band like Spectrum, or other bands from that time, and reminisce. Music’s really great like that, it always takes you back to a place or time. You can see a lot of happy people singing along to I'll Be Gone, it’s such a great song. People love it.’
