After having had a corporate career in life insurance and once her children had grown up, Paulina Chong wanted to continue her self-development as she believes strongly in giving back to the community in a more meaningful way.
She completed a course in life coaching and also began volunteering in her local community.
Paulina enrolled in some courses at her local University of the Third Age (U3A) in Nunawading.
I was impressed by the volunteer-run model at U3A. A community such as U3A offers so much especially to those who are on their own and without many relatives or friends.
She then offered her services as she felt that the model provided its members opportunities to learn from and to grow with each other. She was inspired to run a course entitled Empowerment, which she believes helps members to be more aware of their emotions and behaviours when dealing with life-challenging situations and thus make better choices to live a more fulfilling life.
Paulina is also a big fan and instructor of the dance-based exercise Zumba, which integrates cardio fitness with muscle conditioning. She now offers these classes to help U3A members keep fit and have fun at the same time.
Because she is always interested in exploring various subjects to challenge and diversify her outlook, Paulina is constantly learning new skills so she can further contribute to her community.
An important life motto she shares is
Live and appreciate every moment of your life as the only moment you have is now.
