Email is a great way to keep in touch and with a tablet, you can read and send emails from anywhere there's an Internet connection, whether that's at home or when you're out and about.

Staying in touch with friends and family via email is easy on an Android Tablet. You can read your mail or tap out a quick reply using the onscreen keyboard. To send and receive email on an Android Tablet, you will need an Internet connection and a Google account, of course. You will have created this when you first connected your tablet to the Internet. Now, let's check out Google's email program called, Gmail. Just tap the icon. There are three main sections. On the left are your mailboxes, including Inbox, Outbox, Sent Messages, Drafts and the others. On the right are your emails. Now, while you may not have used your email app before, you'll have received some emails telling you how to use Gmail.

Along the top are four buttons. You use these to compose an email, search and find an email, refresh your email, and change other settings for your email. When you want to open an email, just tap on it. It will expand to occupy the screen so you can read it easily. If it's a long email, you read through it by scrolling with your fingers. If you see Show Pictures at the top of the email, the message contains an image. Tap it to see the picture. To see the next email, swipe your finger across the screen from right to left. If you want to go back to the main folder, tap the mail icon at the top of the screen, next to your email address.

Now, let's write an email. The first thing you need to do is touch the Compose icon. It looks like an envelope with a plus sign. The next screen will ask who you want to send the email to, the subject and the email's composition. Click the 2 field and type in the recipient's email address using the onscreen keyboard. Now, enter a brief description of your message in the Subject line. Tap in the main text box right here to start typing in your message. You can use the Return button to start a new line or a paragraph. When you're done, hit the Send button at the top of the screen.

You can also reply to emails that you've received. Just go to the top of the email and tap the Reply icon. It's the first on the right. You can see the address and subject are automatically filled out and that the text of the email is already included in the main writing box. You can write your reply on top, that way the person you're replying to has a reference of their email sent to you. Lastly, tap Send.
