In our society, partners, families and friends provide an enormous amount of support for older people. Most of the time, this support is focused on the expressed wishes and needs of the older person and I want to record my appreciation for the great amount of love and care provided by partners, families and friends - in many cases on a daily basis. However the release of the report of the Royal Commission into Family Violence is a timely reminder that there are older people in Victoria who sadly are at risk of, or experiencing, elder abuse.

Seniors Card milestone reached!

The Victorian ​Senio​rs Card program is celebrating a milestone this month, as it has reached one million active card holders! Minister Foley presented the​ one millionth Seniors Card holder, Tony Michael, 72, with his Seniors Card and Seniors Myki and a range of gifts from the Government and Telstra.

Flu shot - get yours now for 2016

Seasonal influenza vaccine is recommended annually and free for all people who are at high risk of complications from flu. Victoria’s Acting Chief Health Officer, Dr Roscoe Taylor, advises that the flu vaccine is available from GPs and other health care providers and is free for those aged over 65 years.
